Fort Pond Native Plants in Montauk, New York, began as a vision of James Grimes many years ago. He saw the need for a place where one could find native and less common, worthy plant material, a place where you could learn and come to appreciate unique approaches to gardening and landscaping.

Our garden center is in its 16th year of operations. Our landscape business, James C. Grimes Land Design, has been in business over thirty years! Both businesses operate out of the unique town of Montauk. This area is quite special and our native vegetation is something we take pride in. One of our constant goals is to promote the use of native vegetation no matter where you live. We encourage our customers to take pride in their local flora and incorporate some into the landscape they create. We do not, by any means, sell or use only native plants. There are so many wonderful ornamentals, and new cultivars are being introduced every year. Our ordering team make a point to seek out the unusual, less common plant varieties including specimens, new or rare perennials, annuals, trees, and shrubs. We do our best to make a splendidly varied selection available throughout our season. Please take the time to browse our catalog online, as well as the accompanying pictures in our photo gallery. As always, the best way to do any plant justice is to see it personally or better yet to grow it in your garden. In addition to our selection of plant material, our nursery also offers customers a beautiful collection of gift items, garden ornaments, outdoor furniture, firepits, Droll Yankee bird feeders, hand crafted cedar bird houses, holiday decor, natural beeswax hand & body salves, unique terrariums & cloches, and adorable candles. Mary and Lee have had fun pouring over our vendor catalogues and decorating the store, giving our look a much needed update. Our pottery collection has also gotten an upgrade, we have beautiful new styles and colors, sure to compliment any homes existing decor. We also specialize in organic pest controls, fertilizers, soils and mulches. Our sales staff is happy to help you in deciding which products fit your garden needs, and can educate you in the best way to integrate them into your gardening routine. Our tool selection has been expanded as well, with the addition of the extensive Silky Saw line.
